Letters to a younger me

Letter to a younger me – Identity

Dear 16 year old Marcee,

My heart breaks for you girl. You are trying to live two different lives. Two lives that will never be able to blend. I know you want to be popular and have the attention from all the “cool” people. I know it seems like that is the very best life has to offer in this moment but I want to let you know that it’s not true.

I see you watching the “popular kids”, wishing you had their clothes, perms, and perfect smiles. I see you there, praying you will be noticed. I see you longing for any attention from a boy, any boy. I know you crave that attention and it’s increasing it’s demand on your mind. I see that you feel a void in your heart and you are trying to fill it with all the things the world is trying to tell you – this is what teen girl needs.

Marcee, the world has sold you a lie. The world’s message is, you need to be pretty or popular or liked by all the boys in order to be valuable. It’s a lie that not only damages you today but for years to come. Each time you choose to believe that your value is based on the opinion of others, you fall deeper into that lie with longer lasting concequences.

The truth is, your life isn’t valuable because of your circumstance, quite the opposite is true. You are valuable in-spite of your circumstances, you were created in God’s image. He created you with a plan and a purpose and none of that has depends on your looks or popularity. He loves you even when you aren’t wearing name brand, your perm has fallen flat and no one notices you.

Press in to Him to find your identity. Read His love letter to you and let your heart drink deeply from that never ending fountain. Trust me, it will be so much better for your future if you learn that now. It will be worth it.

You are loved and known, A slightly older Marcee
