    Don’t Judge the Journey

Do you ever have those days when you are so annoyed with people around you and more specifically how they behave?  Maybe you have a co-worker that seems to be gunning for you.  Or your spouse, how they behave each time you have an argument.  Even, people you encounter on the road, at the bank, in everyday life.  Let’s face it, people can be frustrating.  My heart breaks today.  I have been frustrated with someone I dearly love.  I have wanted wholeness and healing for them, and I have hoped for every good thing to come their way.   At each turn, when things didn’t go the way I thought would…

    House Cleaning

I laid in bed thinking back over the conversation I had just had with my youngest daughter. At 12, the world has become far more real and fears have less to do with boogey monsters but rather the world around us and her own fallen nature. She has expressed frustration several times that she hates that she is prone to disobey. She’s really a great kid and for the most part, quick to obey and desires know God more and more. But what had her upset this one particular night was fear. She had come up to get me out of bed to pray over her because she was afraid…

    Obedience is faith in action

This month Brett and I celebrated 14 years of being remarried. I can’t believe how far we have come! I never expected us to be in this place at this time. In my post https://marceehess.com/weddings-to-avoid/ I share about our first wedding. But I would love to share with you a little about second wedding. After being married 9 years, Brett and I divorced. After those years of marriage the only redeeming value was the two beautiful girls God blessed us with. Obviously, after our terrible marriage we had lots of pain and baggage we had created. But during our divorce I did my very best to destroy every shred of…

    Surrendering My Agenda

If you have read any of my posts it may not come as a surprise to you that I like to know what’s coming next. I enjoy learning what the future might look like and dreaming of all the possibilities. Once I am focused on what I perceive is next for the future, it’s hard to focus on much else. I just want to get started on my list of things that I assume will be steps to achieve this next thing. This is why I love check lists. I feel so accomplished when I check items of the list. It makes me feel like I am moving forward. I…

Be careful what you pray for

Remember the time you prayed for God to change you? Maybe you’ve asked Him to show you where you are walking in sin? How about show you areas of your life that you have idols? What happened when God started answering your prayer requests? I’m going to guess that if it’s anything like what He does with me, you suddenly find yourself in a puddle crying often wondering what has happened. It’s painful and hard to see the forrest through the trees. It’s not like God has been mean or accusatory but really it feels more like He has allowed the veil to be moved back a bit so that…

Why does waiting have to be so hard?

Do you ever read a story in the Bible a hundred times and then all at once you read it again and – BAM – it comes alive in a new way that totally fits where you’re at? That’s me. Honestly, I identify with the Israelites in the desert so often but in this season of my life, it’s more so. Usually, the part I see myself with the Israelites in the desert is how many times they got it wrong. Slow learners unite! But right now, the time I relate to on the wilderness journey is the waiting. Oh, the waiting. I need to pause and breathe thinking of…

My Ebenezer – “He has helped us thus far”

When you walk in my front door one of the first things you will see is this wall hanging. It signifies so many things. This has become, for me, my Ebenezer. You may not remember that word in the Bible and all you can picture is a grumpy old man from A Christmas Carol but it is in fact a biblical word. 1 Samuel begins before the people of Israel had asked God for a king. They were lead by the prophet Samuel. This was before the mighty King David or even King Saul. If you remember anything in the early Old Testament it’s the people of Israel were slow…
